Program Overview
- The Assurance Monitoring Program was a one-time quality monitoring program that followed PID’s Recovery Sampling efforts after the 2018 Camp Fire. Its purpose was to verify that water distributed through the mains remained free of fire-related Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) caused by the devastating fire.
- This program was conducted for 24 months from summer of 2020 through October of 2021.
- Each of the approximate 1,300 sample sites were tested during this period, covering the whole distribution system. The majority of these sample sites are considered Routine Sample Sites. Some areas had been identified as Focus Areas and were sampled more frequently.
- Focus Areas are sections of mains that had previously tested out of compliance during initial Recovery Sampling efforts. These sections of main have since tested in compliance and been cleared for potable service, but PID continued to monitor them closely to ensure they remained in compliance.
- In the first 6 months of the program, Focus Areas were sampled once every 2 months, followed by a frequency of once per quarter for the following 6 months.
- The total number of samples collected per week for the program gradually decreased until PID fell back into routine sampling.
- No samples tested out of compliance.
