PID replaced approximately 2,600 feet of 50-year old, 4-inch steel pipe with 8-inch C900 PVC in the summer of 2017. The area included Country Club Drive from Stearns Road to Tokay Court. The pipeline replacement was funded as a joint project with the Paradise Fire Department Hydrant Fund.
The project also included replacing 4-inch "wharf head" fire hydrants with six-inch "steamer" models, improving firefighting capabilities in this canyon-edge neighborhood.
The project was selected for construction because the existing pipeline had experienced a significant number of leaks. This water main also provided flows for firefighting that were significantly below the residential standard - making this a priority project for Paradise Fire Department. Wildland fire events have taken place in the vicinity of this project during the last three fire seasons.

Budgeted vs. Actual Costs
PID's board considered these alternatives:
- Option 1 - Replace the entire District pipeline on Country Club Drive with 8-inch C900 water main from Stearns Road to 200 feet south of Tokay Court.
- Option 2 - Replace the upper section of the Country Club Drive water main from Stearns Road to Blue Danube Drive with 8-inch C900 water main (approximately 1,150 feet of replacement).
- Option 3 - No pipeline replacement. Continue repairing leaks as needed.
PID's board of directors voted to approve Option 1 and the construction of the replacement pipeline is complete and operational.
Benefits to PID and its Customers
Improved firefighting capabilities, with larger main size and new fire hydrants, improved reliability, new meter service laterals and water quality improvements due to smooth new pipes with no rusty corrosion deposits.
